Akaru: These folks are apparently related to the Vulcans and Romulans (and Mintakans, and Debrune). There are a number of new species available to players, the majority of which are completely new for STA. Anyways! I'm always happy to have more source material to draw on, so I was excited to get this new book, and I thought it would be cool to make a post with my initial thoughts as I skip around and skim through it.įirst thing I always do when I get a new sourcebook is look at the new options for players, so I'm going to skip to chapter four. No shade on GMs who like the official material, I just personally find it easier to adapt my games to the twists and turns players will inevitably throw at me when it's something I've written. Personally, even though I've run a lot of STA since the game came out, I'm not that familiar with the Shackleton Expanse stuff because I tend to make my own adventures as opposed to running published material.
Today the full source book became available to pre-order or get on PDF. It was created for STA, and has been the setting for a lot of the pre-generated adventure material. While most of the game material has largely focused on aspects of the Star Trek franchise familiar to fans, there has been the occasional mention of the Shackleton Expanse, a largely unexplored region of the Beta Quadrant full of gravimetric anomalies on the other side of the Klingon Empire and Romulan Star Empire from Federation space. The Core Rulebook for the game was released in 2017, and it's been chugging along ever since. Instead of Dungeons & Dragons, it's Away Teams & Anomalies. For anyone unfamiliar, Star Trek Adventures is a tabletop RPG published by Modiphius Entertainment.
